The iconic 1930s Beach Pyjama - according to historical sources, was (to some traditionalists of the time) a garment that gave justification for divorce!

Whether holidaying abroad, lounging at home or out for a Sunday picnic, these beach pyjamas somehow manage to bring ultimate glamour to casual dressing in the most fantastic way!

In the late 1920s and into the 1930s, casual wear started to become more acceptable and the beach pyjama or lounge ensemble, as it was sometimes called, started to appear in fashion journals. Many vintage fashion fans will have come across many photographs from the 1930s featuring an array of splendid examples of this amazing fashion phenomenon.

During the 30s, sailor styles became popular and our design echo's this with the drop tie, extra wide leg and colouring. There are nearly 3 metres of fabric in these beach pyjamas! Note also the handy patch pockets on the front for extra detailing.

These are loose fitting with a stretchy waist, the back is an envelope opening - meaning you just step into them. The bodice is intended to blouson over to give a flattering 'nipped in' waist.

We've added a kimono style jacket in line with many original examples we have seen. Its a fabulous lightweight style to keep the sun (or the evening chill) off the arms and upper back.

Our design is simple yet still exudes 1930s details including:-
- nautical sailor style neckline
- gathered waist to give a flexible fit
- envelope back neckline
- very wide leg
- made in rayon crepe for proper vintage style drape
- contrast edging on neckline
- kimono jacket with contrast piping around neckline
- inner leg length approx. 31 inches, full leg from waist approx. 41 inches

Fabric: 100% viscose
Care: cool hand wash or dry clean (3% shrinkage may occur) - iron to bring shape back
